Being Well and Eating Healthy
It's easy to eat healthy if you know what foods your body needs
and how these foods help to keep you well. Eating fresh whole foods
is very important because they retain most of their nutrients, including
minerals and vitamins, that our bodies need to live. Try to eat
whole foods that include proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and of course
plenty of water—eight eight-ounce glasses of filtered water
a day.

You can get a great source of protein from meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products.
Proteins are called the “building blocks of life” because they
help the body build and repair the tissue of muscles and organs.
Carbohydrates and fiber are found mostly in whole
grains, fruits, and vegetables. Your body digests carbohydrates
and utilizes them for energy. A great source of “good”
fats are in fish, nuts, avocados, seeds, olive oil, and even fresh
creamery butter. Fats are another source of energy and aid cell
function, hormones, and the utilization of certain vitamins and
minerals.
Some basic ideas to remember are to avoid eating
processed or refined foods such as white flour and white sugar,
fried foods, and carbonated beverages. Since your body doesn’t
need these foods, they are stored as fat. Try to minimize the foods
that you keep in your cupboard because many of them are prepackaged
and not fresh.
